Trust Split · free on Mac and Windows
One secret.
Many keepers.
Split a recovery phrase or passphrase into shares. Any few of them bring it back, and a single share on its own reveals nothing. No server, no links, nothing that expires.

On Mac
On WindowsHow it works
Split it in four steps.
Everything happens on your machine. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there’s no account at any point.

Paste the secret
A recovery phrase, a passphrase, a private key. Anything you can type.
Choose how many shares
Make up to 12. One per person you trust, or one per place you’ll keep them.
Choose how many bring it back
At least 2, and no more than the number of shares. The app spells out your choice in plain words before you commit.
Split, then separate them
Copy each share, copy them all, or save them to a file. Then hand them out right away. Five shares in one drawer is just a secret with extra steps.
Pick your numbers
Two numbers. The whole decision.
Fewer shares to recover is easier to use and easier to steal. More is harder to steal and easier to lose. Pick the balance that fits.
2 of 3
A couple keeping a wallet recovery phrase. Either of you plus the safe-deposit box brings it back.
3 of 5
A family or a small board. No one person, or even two, can act alone.
All of them
Needing every share means every single one has to survive. That’s usually a mistake.
Fewer means nothing
Below your number, the shares reveal nothing at all. Not “hard to crack”. Nothing.
Recover
Bring it back when it counts.
Switch to Recover, paste the shares one per line, and the secret comes back.
Any shares, any order
You need enough of them. It doesn't matter which ones, or what order they're in.
Paste the whole message
On Mac, anything that isn't a share is ignored, so you can paste the entire email a share arrived in.
Gone from the clipboard
On Mac, a secret you copy after recovering clears from the clipboard after 30 seconds.
Good habits
A split is only as good as its keepers.
Test it first
Split something disposable, gather your shares, and recover it. Find a truncated paste now, not during the emergency.
Treat each share as the secret
Enough of them together rebuild it exactly. Don’t email the whole set to yourself “for now”.
Spread them out
Different people, different places. The point is that no single loss or theft is enough.
Keep enough shares to reach your number
If you choose 3 of 5 and lose three shares, the secret is gone. That’s the guarantee working, not a bug. Store the shares so you can always gather enough again.
Questions
Good to know.
Is Trust Split really free?
Yes. It needs no purchase and no account, on Mac or Windows. A way to recover your secrets is a bad thing to put behind a paywall.
What is Shamir's Secret Sharing?
A well-known way to split a secret into pieces so that any chosen number of them rebuild it exactly, while fewer pieces reveal nothing at all. It's math, not a password, so there's nothing to guess with fewer shares.
Can Starkive recover my secret if I lose the shares?
No. Nothing is sent to us or kept anywhere else. If you can't gather enough shares, the secret is gone. That's the guarantee working as intended.
Where are the shares stored?
Nowhere, unless you put them somewhere. Trust Split shows the shares so you can copy them or save them to a file. What happens next is up to you.
What can I split?
Anything you can type or paste: a wallet recovery phrase, a passphrase, a private key, or the master password to your vault.
Share the trust, not the secret.
Trust Split comes free with Starkive Studio on Mac and Windows.
