Cloud asset tools are headed
for a privacy and cost problem.
Every asset platform is racing to add AI. We think that race has a catch, and it lands on the customer.
Your asset list is sensitive.
It says what you own, where it sits, who uses it, and what you paid. Cloud asset tools keep all of that on their servers, under their breach surface, subject to their policies.
AI makes it worse for them.
Cloud vendors can only deliver AI by running your inventory through their models. That is a privacy problem they can't design away, and it's coming to every asset platform.
And it shows up on the bill.
Per-seat pricing plus paid AI add-ons means cloud asset tools only get more expensive from here. The AI they bolt on becomes the reason your renewal goes up.
Manifest takes a different path. The whole system, AI included, runs on hardware you already own. Apple silicon is more than capable of running the models this job needs. You are billed by how many assets you track, never per seat and never per AI query — and if you pick the local workspace there is no cloud account and nothing leaves your own devices.

Manifest is a hardware asset management system, and that is the whole of what it does right now: devices, stockrooms, consumables, contracts, leases, repairs and disposal, from purchase to retirement.
Software licence tracking is the next area we are building, and it is not in the product yet. If you need software entitlement reconciliation today, Manifest will not do it, and we would rather you knew that here than found out after you bought it.

Manifest for iPhone is a smaller build of the same product, not a scanner for the Mac. It holds the register itself, so it works in a basement with no signal and catches up later — and an admin who installs the phone app first can name the organisation, answer the compliance questions and start the trial from it, with no Mac in the building yet. One purchase covers both.

A camera in the room with the hardware. Read the asset tag, cross-check the serial by barcode and OCR, and confirm you have seen the machine — standing in front of it.

Who holds what, reassigned on the spot, with the change recorded whether or not the Mac is awake.
🔒 Encrypted before it moves
Condition photographs are sealed on the phone before they go anywhere. On a local workspace the link to your Mac is TLS with a pinned certificate, on your own network.
Some work still wants the bigger screen — the full compliance surface, and anything that reads the whole database at once. Those screens say so on the phone rather than pretending otherwise.

Most vendors say “private” and mean “our cloud, with a good policy”. We would rather show you the wiring and let you decide.

The register is a file on your Mac. Your phone syncs to it across your own network and to nothing else.
We receive nothing. No account, no telemetry, nothing for us to lose or be compelled to hand over.
Cloud
Your devices sync through infrastructure we run, so a Mac and a phone agree without sharing a network.
We hold your inventory. Regulated scope, disposal evidence, lease terms and every photograph are encrypted on your device with a key we never receive — we could not read those if you asked us to.
The privacy policy spells out exactly which fields are which. It is short, and it is worth the two minutes.
Priced by how many assets you track.
Not per seat. A seat count would punish exactly the shops this is built for, where one consultant administers everything and the value has nothing to do with how many people sign in. Both workspaces are a monthly subscription through the App Store, across the same seven tiers.

Five admins are included on every tier. Storage is derived from the asset count and is generous — you are never billed by the gigabyte, and going over your tier never stops you recording an asset.
Seven days free, and then it goes read-only. It is never locked.
This product holds hardware registers — often a consultant’s client’s register, mid-audit. An app that locks you out of that because a card expired has made its billing calendar your compliance problem. So when the trial runs out, or a subscription lapses, only writing stops: reading, reporting and exporting keep working. There is also a self-serve 48-hour window you can start yourself if a lapse lands in the middle of an audit.
