Sweep a rack

One camera that stays open while you pan across a shelf. It records what was seen, and it's careful not to call that verified.

GuidesiPhoneMinutes for a room

Before you start

  • A room or a stockroom to walk, with the tags facing out.
  • A decision about scope, which the first screen asks for.
  1. Start it from the button you already press

    On screenStart a sweep

Start a sweep is an iOS control, so it can live in Control Centre, on the Lock Screen or on the Action Button. It's also on the Scan screen as Sweep a rack instead.

  2. Say what you're sweeping

    On screenWhat are you sweeping?

The whole room ticks off whatever is in front of you. Pick a stockroom instead and the sweep knows what should be there, so it can also tell you what it didn't see.

  3. Pan, and listen

On screenPoint at a rack and pan. Each tag is ticked off as it is seen.

The screen says Point at a rack and pan. Each tag is ticked off as it is seen. A soft tick for one on the list, a double knock for one the register has never heard of, and nothing for one you already read, so re-reading a tag doesn't nag you.

  4. Watch it from the Dynamic Island if you like

A running sweep puts its count on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. If it stops updating, it greys out rather than leaving an old number up.

  5. Save what you saw

    On screenSave 34 as seen

Save 34 as seen writes them, then says 34 recorded as seen. Verify each one on its record. Sweeping isn't verifying: it shows a label was in the room, not that somebody checked the machine behind it.

  6. Read the three answers

    On screenExpected here, not seen

Scoped to a stockroom, the sweep ends with what didn't add up: Expected here, not seen. Here, but listed somewhere else. Not in your assets. The first is what went missing, the second is drift you can fix on the spot, and the third is kit nobody wrote down.

No picture of the sweep either, same reason

It's a camera screen. The wording above is quoted from the app, including the line about seeing not being verifying.

NextTag a machine with NFCWrite a chip two taps from the record, and tapping the phone on it opens that record again. Beats reading a worn asset number off the back of a rack.
